I wonder what the screening process for the foreign ninja is like. A village popped right the heck out of nowhere, and everyone seems okay with it.

Mine's Dosu.

These 3 sound nin didn't really do much though, at least the squad that took Sasuke later had curse marks.

Of which, the spider dude was the coolest.

Out of ALL of Sound... Think I'd have to go with Kabuto myself. Orochimaru has his moments, but... "Like" is a strong word.

Not sure Sasuke even counts, but didn't exactly "like" him in his time with them anyway... Hell, didn't really get over my Sasuke hate until he lost his freaking gourd and was clearly being set up as a villain.

My favorite is the one with bandages all over his face

I don't really remember any of their names

Dosu was my favorite. I always wondered what he looked like underneath the bandages.

"Popping out of nowhere" isn't that weird. Ninja are the military after all. All it really amounts to is a small border nation deciding to form one.

"Not having any idea who runs the thing" on the other hand is a little odd. The minor villages don't seem to last very long without some kind of clear power house keeping them afloat and the vultures from thinking they look weak.

I get the feeling villages pop up, not all the time, but with some regularity. They probably just don't last too long.

Which might even make keeping the power behind it a secret somewhat mundane. The strong nations are best served by flaunting their leadership, because it will be almost impossible for them to keep it secret. Might as well not waste time trying but instead gain any advantages you can from being open about it.

For small villages it works best to go the opposite route; they can keep the secret, at least for a while. You won't get much mileage if your leader isn't someone crazy strong, and even if he or he is, the bonus of the PR and everyone in the village knowing whom they should serve and protect is less effective than preventing outsiders from knowing whom to target and really fear.
