GM's, try this sometime. Give your players a puzzle, and then give them no indication of how to solve it whatsoever.

And a friend of mine did that to his players. It was pure evil too, made them waste so many spells for nothing LOL

It was a puzzle presented in the Rise of Tiamat. In-game it took us probably 2 days to complete it and it's totally my fault. The Paladin's player knew exactly what to do but I was uncertain and curious so after the first correct answer, I decided to play with possibility rather than choose the obvious answer. Each time you choose a wrong answer, it takes 1d6 hours to get back to the puzzle location. After stage 2, I let the Paladin figure everything out except the last two after I finally got a clue and followed the rules of the puzzle.
I play the Wizard, who has the highest INT at 18. I'm sure my Wizard would be very upset to know that his stupidity was not his own. He just wanted to study the puzzle.
