I think grappling rules jokes are still funny, but not this one. This one is just saying, "grappling rules," and then expecting us to laugh at the mere mention. Sorry.

It's not JUST saying grappling rules. It's saying that it took several minutes of using the grappling rules to accomplish one move. Which it does in many of the older systems.

I think it boils down to a "You had to have been there." kind of joke. I've got barely any D&D experience, but (as I bring up far too often), I'm a GURPS player. GURPS uses one-second combat rounds, so grappling is a series of contests and in the usual GURPS fashion, you can get more detailed, advanced materials that make the whole thing even more intricate.

Which also makes it much, much more time-consuming. XP
