I knew this would stir up a reaction, but now I must walk a delicate tightrope. Wish me luck...

Also, where do you stand on the BFF dichotomy?

I'd only ever heard of BFF standing for Best Friends Forever.

Maybe it's a regional thing, like how different parts of the US use different terms to refer to soda/pop/coke/soft drinks/etc.

Such would be my assumption as well, a regional thing. Personally though, Best Friends Forever is how I always saw it.

I've always knew it as best friend forever.

But regardless, Best Female Friend still applies here.

I've never heard of BFF being specific to females before...

Best Friend Forever, but considering only girls say that and female starts with f, I can see how Best Female Friend can also be used.

Heard it as both but grew up with Best Friends Forever. Also cool with this twist that ino is male identifying as female. At least she isn't going completely tumbler, thats where I'd roll my eyes.

I'm going with Merriam-Webster on this one: BFF is short for "best friend's forever". That's what it meant when I was growing up; alternative meanings would sometimes pop up in things cartoons or sitcoms or what have you as jokes. If someone or even a generation redefines... like I said, it is redefining.

Oh... the mixed blessing of an ass pull plot twist like this is it may be funnier if it does end in a trainwreck. Actually, having it end up going wrong in the campaign and/or among the group could provide an interesting way of redeeming such a thing. ;) If you pull it off another way, that's good, too.
