I gave my thoughts on Lee before, but still, major props to Kishimoto for doing this. Lee was a popular character, and crushing him this completely was a bold move. It really did give the impression that no one was truly invincible.

Until we let Lee fight another day. Kishimoto's other signature. Undermine a bold move by undoing it...

I did appreciate how Kishimoto always used a new method every time he wanted to undermine his own drama. It's not much, but at least it's better than people in DBZ acting like every death is some unspeakable tragedy when they know full damn well that dragonballs exist. The only correct reaction to any tragic event in that universe is "Dammit! Now we have to go gather the balls again?! Welp, there goes my Saturday!"

Could use salt.

I agree though on the DBZ death thing. You’d half expect people to just be numb to death by this point, or for everyone to know about the dragon balls being more than a myth and try to gather them for themselves instead of leaving it in the hands of a space monkey.

I don't know of anyone said it yet, but one interesting thing about Naruto is that the writer never reused the same trope multiple times. For instance, in other anime, you would have a reliable Deus ex Machina like the way that Goku could always get stronger when he needed to, even with arbitrary causes for the escalation. It's like, oh no here's an unstoppable foe that Goku isn't strong enough to beat yet, does anyone have any aspirin it's gonna be at least a week before he heals me.
