I've always wanted to see the wise old man trope subverted. You meet the wise old master along your journey, only to find that, no, he really is just some old guy.

I think Power Rangers Jungle Fury is the only thing that has, and that was for about two seconds. I want at least 2 minutes of appearing like the wise mentor figure.

Those instances are rather funny...especially if said not-master tricks the poor sap into doing junk for him before they realize it, thinking it’s some weird obscure training technique. I can’t honestly recall any actual examples of such off the top of my head, but know there have to be such out there...

I've seen somewhere some good subversions to that kind of thing.

The wise old wizard who sends you on a quest or gives magical training. But he is actually insane. The things he send you for are useless and his magical advise is wrong and/or dangerous to attempt.

Or, going the other direction, the blathering drunk/beggar's words sound unimportant, but is very important. Either they are a powerful seer or they are infected with horrible contagious plague disease.
