Reputation. That thing that you don't think matters until it very specifically comes up.

Any stories about in-game reputation?

Well, I don't have any good ones about me. But in this Tower of God game (Using an original system made by the host and has like 10 active players at once with more semi-active ones), I was part of a subgroup (some of us teamed up with others while others went solo or grabbed NPCs as support) that acted as mercenaries. We were hired to stop some bandits who were kidnapping villagers and forcing them to mine illegal material (There are some politics here that might have made the mining legal in this case, but in a nutshell it would be illegal for us players to have them).

We then ran into a very important guy who was the heir of a family who said this mine was part of his family's operation (Again, politics made it hard to tell if the mine was legal or not and we never did find out how connected he was to the kidnapping due to what happens next) and so we decided to fight him.

A side note, we had 3 other players with us. Two who were a couple that ran into us before the encounter and a third that another player in this subgroup decided to kidnap because they were basically a white mage. And thus we had a team of 8 players vs 3 NPCs. So to make a long story short, we beat them badly. So badly, that one of the players went Super Sayian of sorts and murdered them all because she forgot to hold back against them and accidentally just said us players didn't get killed by her Kamehameha (To clarify, she wasn't an actual Sayian nor was this a Kamehameha. We were all just joking around and being nerds about this form).

Now for the part where the kidnapped white mage player comes in. We tried to revive the heir NPC (Called Allen), but ended up failing. IC, we had no idea what the hell happened. The revival should have worked even though Allen was reduced to dust. OOC? That white mage player? Also branched out into being a soul devouring demon. And ate Allen's soul thus denying a revival. The couple players then left us in disgust while we had to move on and help with the villagers.

Fast forward to next floor (Tower of God so there is a floor that we had to pass a test in order to continue) and suddenly all of us get summoned by a high level NPC by a fourth player (She was a relative of the Allen NPC). Turns out the couple told this player and she told her family and now we are on trial. I was at work at the time so I didn't get the details until it was too late. But the other players tried to say how Allen was behind villagers kidnapping and illegal mining and so it was done for a good cause. Without proof. Because we burned down all the evidence to try to hide the fact Allen died. Because we were idiots. (In my defense, I left the cave by the time they did this and so was unaware.)

So fortunately two other players who were nearby for separate reasons was spying us and so came to our rescue. Because this high level NPC sentenced us all to death on the spot. We managed to make our escape. Most of us, fortunately, don't really suffer much after this because we didn't do much against Allen and his goons honestly. But the player who accidentally killed Allen because of a majority of reasons including bad wording to host?

Yeah her reputation is shot to hell. She even got disavowed by her own family. And is gonna have to work IC to get into good graces of other player characters (OOC, it is all cool and they understand). And our subgroup just disbanded because of variety of reasons including a player deciding to change characters. So she is even more all alone.

And the hilarious part in a dark way? I am playing as Carnage and am an Irregular, a class that gets a ton of hate if people find out that I am one in story. And I suffered the least amount and am even in another subgroup (Because of the whole other one getting disbanded) with the player who was a relative of Allen with no complaints (She did say her character is gonna be extra sassy with mine and less likely to aid tho). Go me and poor Violette.

Just last night, the party was put on trial for "weakening the fabric of the universe." Luckily for them, not only was the trial rigged in their favor, but the witnesses' testimonies were mostly just about a series of unrelated misdoings that showed no causal link to weakening the universe.

And if you're wondering, yes, I'm following the exact plot of the Order of the Stick

Got tarred, feathered, and chased out of Laerakond because someone in the party accidentally let it slip that my dragonborn is actually a half dragon dragonborn and my character wouldn't disavow his mom (the dragon).

Part of the reason we went there was to gather information on my character's dad, because one of the primary motivations for him is to punch his dad in the nuts over the circumstances of how he was begat.
