The cheering on an ally thing seems a bit odd to me in the RPG format. I don't know, it would vary from group to group and situation to situation. But, I assume this isn't exactly commonplace? I'd be more than happy to be wrong about this one, though.

The only reason it is unusual, I think, is because leaving the other members of the group with nothing to do but cheer is usually seen as poor form when it comes to GMing. Unless it would wreck suspension of disbelief, everyone would have something to do during this time, related to their own abilities.

I think most rule systems with which I'm familiar include things like "morale bonuses" for being cheered on by allies, unless they're supposed to be games founded on "gritty realism". That, or it has just been a common houserule among those I've played or discussed the matter with over the years.

Pretty sure it is very unusual, but given my own comic I am guilty in a sense of similar with having characters there basically doing nothing. That’s why’s i try to involve them as something of a peanut gallery when i think about it.

As Otaku said, it would be poor form for a GM to simply force other players to sit on the sidelines watching and only able to cheer without giving them something else to do or occupy themselves.
