There is an appeal to lichdom. Shame you turn into a shambling corpse or eldritch abomination in the end, though.

Though for some, that second one's a plus.

It is all about learning the game system. I mean, with this actual "mechanic" in Naruto, did they clarify if the resurrected had something about them like a smell of decay, flesh that felt wrong, a creepy aura, etc.? I know that, when healing, the bodies would reform in a manner that screamed "This ain't normal, even for magical ninja!" XP Otherwise, the drawback I recall is someone has to die to create a vessel for the resurrected.

Also, just to scratch my "GURPS" itch, one of the fun things I remember trying to manipulate to gain immortality is a spell called Wish (possible Great Wish - hey, it has been a while). It was hard to learn, hard to cast, so most GM's were not going to allow a PC to acquire it... which was find. Just having it exist in a campaign world meant you had an avenue to towards eventual immortality. It could only grant an Advantage worth 15 CP in GURPS, or otherwise increase an existing one by that much... but it was GURPS. If the GM allowed Limitations (which reduce an Advantage's cost), it was possible to slowly advance to full-on immortality through one or two dozen savvy wishes. That sounds like a lot, and it is, but Unaging is only 15 CP and probably the target of your first wish. ;)
