A bad saving throw can ruin your whole day. I once when making saves rolled a 4, and then a 3 directly afterward.

Also bad rolls for critical moments of dealing damage, avoiding damage, rolling to influence an NPC, etc. ;) You can hope the GM helps by fudging the results you don't see.

S'why, when playing GURPS, I like to make sure my character takes some form of Luck. It is an Advantage with a 1-hour (real-world play time) recharge period. When using luck, you roll three times instead of once, and pick the result (out of the three) you want. You can even elect to use it after you've rolled once (in which case, you just roll twice more).

You can still fail, especially if your only hope was a critical success, but it means legitimately bad rolls have to come in pairs of three, while you just need one good roll out of the three.
