I watched a DM briefly take control of a character in a bad way, once. He made the paladin reveal himself as a blackguard, betray the party to Baal, and rape the cleric whose god required a vow of eternal celibacy.

None of this was part of the paladin's character, even secretly. This wasn't one of my groups, I was watching from the sidelines.

....god damn, that is the kind of trust breaking that causes groups to straight up implode.

Fuck... well. I might not always appreciate my group's dms' game style, but at least they don't pull ridiculous bullshit like that. ... besides, my groups tend to have enough secret agendas to implode the party on their own without the dm adding more.

The rest of the party was expected to escape hell without either a cleric, or paladin.

I guess the cleric couldn't get an Atonement spell cast on them till after the escaped, and she presumably didn't have any items or other skills that could be used when she ran out of her daily allotment of spells?

Now, I know this is five years after this comment, but...why would the Paladin's player allow this? Did they allow this? I don't even understand, what the hell?
